Ogunbawo, despite not progressing into the semis, set a new National Record as the first Nigerian to swim under one minute, beating the 14-year-old Record of 1:00.50s set by Ngozi Monu. Her time also meant she now holds two National Records as she also tops the chart in the 200m Freestyle with a time of 2:13.17. At just 17, Ogunbawo is achieving all these and it gives great hope that it will only get better for the Nigerian in the future.

In men’s basketball, the D’Tigers failed to win in their second outing as they suffered a 92-99 points loss at the hands of the German national team. After a first game defeat at the hands of the Australian team, D’Tigers looked determined to get it right against the Europeans. The Germans won the first quarter 24-21, but the West Africans replied in the second quarter with a 29-26 win as the first half ended 50-50. Another fight from both sides will see the third-quarter end in a stalemate, 24-24, but a 25-18 points loss in the fourth quarter condemned the D’Tigers to their second loss in the tournament with slim chances of making it to the next round. Nigeria must beat Italy in their last group game to stand a chance of qualifying as one of the best third-placed teams to qualify for the next round.
