Former Minister of Education and co-convener of the
Bring Back Our Girls campaign,
Oby Ezekwesili, on Sunday emerged the presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN).
Her Success Story
Ezekwesili was a co-founder of
Transparency International, serving as one of the pioneer directors of the global anti-corruption body based in Berlin, Germany.
Prior to working for the Nigerian government under former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Ezekwesili worked with Professor Jeffry Sachas at the Centre for International Development at Harvard.
During the OBJ administration, Ezekwesili served as the pioneer head of the Budget Monitoring and Price Intelligence Unit, where she earned the name “Madam Due Process” for her outstanding work with the unit in sanitising public procurement and contracting at the federal level.
In June 2005, she was appointed Minister of Solid Minerals (Mines and Steel), where the Nigerian fought to reform our nation’s mining industry, thus giving Nigeria global recognition as a credible mining investment destination.
One year later, Ezekwesili, who was now very famous for her brawls with the political cabals at the time in a bid to curb corruption amongst the Nigerian ruling party, was appointed Minister of Education. A post she held until she took up an appointment as the Vice-President of the World Bank’s Africa division from May 2007 to May 2012.
The Present
In an
interview with Gatefield TV, Ezekwesili, outlined the reasons why she who loathed politics, decided to run for presidency herself.
“What changed is that I critically analyzed what I hate more than politics, and I came to the conclusion that what I hate more than politics is what has become the lot of our country.
“Where the political class has acted in as incorrigible a manner as possible and stopped even realizing that the country is really declining so badly that we imperil not just the future but our present.”

Nigeria has lost its core value system, hence the severe decline in our economy, with a ripple effect that will affect future generations immensely if there is no political overhaul come 2019 general elections.
Ezekwesili believes that her administration can create a new Nigeria where “
bad behavior is sanctioned and good behavior is rewarded,” — a society where the needs of the citizens are placed first.
