The Nigeria Professional Football League in partnership with the foremost professional division in Spanish football, La Liga, have kicked off the third edition of the NPFL/La Liga annual coaching clinic.

The five-day clinic is scheduled to run till Friday, with about 100 youth coaches in attendance at the National Stadium, Abuja.

The annual coaching clinic heralds the NPFL U-15 Promises Tournament and is designed to train and educate youth coaches on La Liga’s methodology so that they can incorporate this training and knowledge to grow youth teams into professionals in no time.

Riding on the back of their successes in previous editions (beginner and intermediate), the clinic will contain a level-three (professional) syllabus, where coaches will be taught more complex technical angles of La Liga’s famous methodology.

Speaking on the division’s plans for Nigeria, the La Liga Sports Project Coordinator, Juan Zapata, said the body was thrilled with the success of the previous editions of the clinic, and they hope to spread the league’s methodology across Nigeria and Africa with the third edition of the clinic.

We are committed to each of our projects across Africa, and sending La Liga coaching instructors to again train the youth coaches in Nigeria aims to further show our commitment to the development of football in the country” — Juan Zapata

The assistant coach of the Nigerian U-17 national team, Bunmi Haruna, also commended the NPFL and La Liga for the initiative that has exposed many Nigerian youth coaches to the unique, very technical, and effective La Liga method.
