ConnectNigeria_NoHornDay Entering Lagos for the first time in 2009, the most glaring and strange thing that jumped out at me was the noise of honking that bombarded the atmosphere. I sometimes sat in traffic and tried to count the number of seconds in-between each honk I heard, and it may not surprise you that there wasn’t up to a second in between each yelping of the horns. Lagos State Government has announced that the official ‘no horn day’ is to take place in Lagos on the 15th of October, 2014 in attempts to mitigate noise pollution in the state. Noise pollution can trigger hypertension, increase stress levels, cause hearing loss, as well as result in many other harmful effects. The no horn day is supposed to help maintain and encourage road discipline, and promote respect between all road users. It is anticipated that the initiative creates awareness and inspires better habits amongst drivers. Consider noise pollution and support working towards a quieter Lagos today by cautioning the use of your horns.
