Since the inception of the Africa Youth Games (AYG) in 2003, team Nigeria had not been able to pick the Volleyball Boys title despite their Herculean feats at every edition of the tournament. Nigeria, however, would come close on many occasions; time after time the team saw their efforts struck over the bar — denied the win they greatly sort.

2018 Africa Youth Games Victory!

Things were about to change for team Nigeria after many trials and failed attempts at securing the volleyball boys crown as the country emerged Winner of the 2018 Volleyball Boys Youth African Games title in Algiers, Algeria. The team ably defeated Egypt 3-2 (25-23, 14-25, 25-23, 14-25, 16-14), in a fierce encounter staged at Ain Taya Hall. Following the win, team Nigeria also qualified for the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U19 World Championship in Iran. To commemorate their victory at the 2018 AYG, the Nigeria volleyball youth team, sponsored by the President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod, visited four orphanages in Abuja where they donated foodstuffs and some other needed supplies.
