  A Nigerian secondary school student, Fareedah Oyolola, has emerged as one of the brightest students in the globe.

A student of Greensprings School, Lagos, Fareedah, gained recognition from the Johns Hopkins Centre for Talented Youth owing to her outstanding performance in the advanced School and College Ability Test (SCAT), a phase every student must pass through for the institution to determine their academic abilities before students are admitted into their talent search programme. Reacting to the honour, an excited Fareedah said:
“The test was a multiple-choice aptitude test in verbal and quantitative reasoning, and I had to answer 100 questions within 44 minutes! At the end of the test, my score was in the 92nd percentile for verbal reasoning and 87th percentile for quantitative reasoning.”
Fareedah went on to praise her teachers for her achievement and hailed her mathematical reasoning skills too.
“There’s no way I would have gotten these high scores with such a limited time window if not for the great work put in by my teachers, towards developing my comprehension abilities and mathematical reasoning skills. I am very grateful to them.” Fareedah

In an official statement released by the Johns Hopkins Centre for Talented Youth, Virginia Roach, the Executive Director of the initiative, hailed Fareedah alongside other exceptional students around the globe for their achievement and expressed excitement at their willingness to help the academic growth of the kids.
“We are thrilled to celebrate these students. In a year that was anything but ordinary, their love of learning shined through, and we are excited to help cultivate their growth as scholars and citizens throughout high school, college, and beyond.” Virginia Roach
On her part, the secondary school principal of Greensprings Anthony campus, Mrs Magdalene Okrikri, expressed joy at Fareedah’s progress which will undoubtedly promote the institution’s name and hailed the young champ.
“This honour brings great joy to my heart. Fareedah’s achievement is a testament that our Thinking School programme is rewarding to our students, helping them to develop mentally and strengthening their cognitive abilities.” Magdalene Okrikri
An initiative of the John Hopkins University, the John Hopkins Centre for Talented Youth is aimed at nurturing young minds that show extraordinary abilities. The 2020-2021 programme of the Centre comprises nearly 19,000 students from 84 countries. Fareeedah, alongside other honorees, will attend a summer programme at the John Hopkins Centre in the United States or Hong Kong. Source Vanguard NGR
