ConnectNigeria_Yuzos   1. It has recently been announced that the Federal Government plans to spend N1.221.4trillion to subsidise the importation of premium motor spirit (PMS) or petrol and dual purpose kerosene (DPK) or kerosene next year. A total of N971.4billion is being proposed as subsidy on PMS while N250 billion would be spent as subsidy on DPK. 2.The Director General of Airport Council International (ACI) World, Angela Gittens, has disclosed  that aviation generated $428 billion in Africa and provided 12, 894 jobs  in 2012. Gittens also added that the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos is the second busiest airport in Africa, and that the airport is also undergoing cargo growth as it has gone up to the fifth in the continent. 3.A new improved online store, www.yuzos.com began operation in Abuja on Wednesday. They will be delivering products such as groceries, drinks, household, personal and baby care products, as well as over the counter pharmaceuticals through an innovative supplier management and logistics architecture right to people’s homes and offices. 4. Strong indications have recently emerged that Dubai-based Mara Foundation has concluded plans to establish a $200 million glass plant in Nigeria to boost employment generation for the people.  5. Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar, has stated that an estimated five million commuters from across the country have used rail transport system between last year till date. The minister attributed the high level of patronage to increased stabilisation of the tracks following rehabilitation of the western line. 6. First Bank of Nigeria Limited (First Bank) and MoneyGram International have announced the launch of outbound remittance service in Nigeria. FirstBank is one of the first MoneyGram agents to offer this service in the country. With the launch, customers would be able to use MoneyGram’s new outbound service offering through the bank’s branches. 7.The Acting Director-General, National Agricultural Seed Councils (NASC), Dr. Philips Olusegun-Ojo, has said the Federal Government is targeting 20 million farmers in the fertiliser distribution for the next year’s farming season. 8. World Bank has promised to scale up Nigeria’s agricultural policy on Electronic-Wallet, E-Wallet, system in Africa, including India, Brazil and China in order to encourage best agricultural practices. 9. The World Bank Group and the World Trade Organisation (WTO) have agreed to enhance their co-operation in assisting Nigeria and other developing and least-developed countries to better utilise trade facilitation programmes, which can help countries reduce trade costs and more fully engage in the global economy. 10. The investment profile of Nigeria’s largest telecommunications firm, MTN may have hit over $13 billion (N2 Trillion) on fixed assets and facilities nationwide in its last 13 years of operation in the country. MTN, which is warming up for license renewal by 2016 in Nigeria, according to statistics from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) currently controls 45 per cent market share and has 58.2 million subscribers.
