  Super Eagles of Nigeria midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has expressed his belief in the country’s national team to win the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroun.

Nigeria is yet to qualify for the tournament, but the Everton FC of England star is optimistic that the Eagles who need two points from their last two qualifying games to book a ticket to Cameroun can win the biggest football event in Africa. Nigeria top Group L of the AFCON qualifiers with eight points, one point ahead of Benin Republic who they will play against on March 27, 2021, before rounding off the qualifier phase against Lesotho in Lagos on March 30. Iwobi was part of the 2019 bronze-winning Nigeria AFCON squad and has now set his sights on the big prize.

‘The positive you can take is we are still on course to be top of the table, so we are confident we have the quality to do so and put 100% for 90 minutes this time, so we can qualify. The opportunity I was given last time to be involved in that competition, I want that feeling again. If you are in a competition you want to win it, [and] I believe us players feel we have the quality to do so. We’d like to play in the best competitions and win them, so we have to prove that against Lesotho and Benin.’ Alex Iwobi
