Ever felt the need to simply relax and get a massage after a hard day’s work? The only worry will be where to get the massage oils if you have used up your stock. Massage oils do not always have to be bought in the stores, you can use home-made ones that serve the same purpose as the industry made oils. These can rejuvenate, moisturise and protect your skin from ageing because they contain several antioxidants and other properties that are very beneficial to the skin. So the next time you need a home massage, you can make use of any of these oils, alternatively, you can experiment and mix them together to see what they would do. Just remember to test them on your skin beforehand so as to be sure that you are not allergic to any one of them.

olive oil

  • Olive oil: Of course this tops our list as the best oil to rub on your skin for a good massage. Olive oil has been used for ages to treat certain skin conditions and also to make the skin soft and smooth. It contains a variety of antioxidants that act on your skin to reverse the damage done by free radicals and make it look young and supple again. It has also been found to improve the elasticity of the skin, therefore, making it a good massage oil you can treat your skin to.

Coconut oil

  • Coconut oil: This is also a very beneficial oil that protects the skin from cracking and scaling. However, it might need to be warmed a little for best effects and also for it to glide easily onto the skin as it tends to solidify easily at room temperatures.

  • Jojoba oil: Jojoba oil is extracted from the seed of jojoba plant and it has a long shelf life, so even if you do not buy regularly, it still stays for long in the house. It is actually very good for massaging because it is believed to have antibacterial properties that can help in preventing acne and some skin infections.

  • Shea butter: Although shea butter is solid at room temperature, it can simply be melted into oil in the microwave and used for massage on its own or mixed with other oils for a lighter feeling on the skin. However, it contains natural latex, so if you are allergic to latex, do a patch test by rubbing it on a small part of your skin first before embarking on full body massage.
