Have you been losing steam at work lately? Sometimes there are deeper reasons why we drop the ball, but if you’re certain you’re not in the wrong job or industry, and it’s just a case of not feeling motivated lately, try these tips:
1. Subscribe to a good professional publication: It may be a magazine, a newsletter or even a simple blog, but subscribing to a publication related to your field of work opens you up to new experiences and helps you learn new skills that will enhance your performance on the job, and consequently your satisfaction. You may also meet new people and network to boost your career.
2. Start a victory log: Sometimes you wonder whether you’re really capable.
While it’s normal to sometimes be assailed by doubts as to whether you’re really up to the task, the antidote is not far-fetched; celebrate past successes. A victory log helps you focus on your strengths and on projects you have executed well. Read this log often to remind yourself of how great you are at what you do, how much you have grown over the years and how much better the world is for the solutions you provide.
3. Get a mentor: The importance of having someone who has walked the road you’re walking cannot be overemphasized. You save yourself a lot of stress, bad decisions and wasted seasons when you have someone to guide you. An experienced professional will easily see what you’re doing wrong in your particular field, and also help you see the value of your area of expertise and make then right decisions. Actively seek a mentor in your chosen career, and be committed to maintaining the relationship and getting the best out of it.
