Multiple award winning filmmaker, Robert Peters, and his Canada-based colleague, Rogers Ofime, are working on releasing their new movie ‘Make Room’. The film was earlier scheduled for release in March 2018, in the United States of America (USA), Nigeria, England, Canada, France and Ghana, but may have been delayed because of financial constrains during production. The movie’s producer Rogers Ofime said:
“You never know what you are capable of until you are faced with a situation you know you can’t handle. We had high hopes of making a great movie, we had high hopes of good financial support, I even danced the day we sealed the deal but a week to principal filming, our investors pulled out. I was really worried and so scared because we had signed contracts with crew from America, South Africa, Nigeria and other countries…. “We decided to move on with our five loaves and two fishes- this really is the miracle that saw us through the project.”-Rogers Ofime
The Hausa feature film is a story of love and the power of dreams in the midst of the violence and terrorism in Nigeria’s northeast and is based on eyewitness account. It follows the story of a bright, promising girl, Salma who was held captive by a daring terrorist group along with 245 of her schoolmates. Despite her seemingly hopeless reality, she refuses to give up on her big dreams. She crosses paths with Goni, a member of the sect who has had a similar unfortunate experience as Salma. They fall in love, get married and start a family, but things are far from happy-ever-after. The director Robert Peters is also a film producer, actor and cinematographer. Some of his popular works include 2014 Nollywood breakout movie “30 Days in Atlanta”, “Shades of Attractions”, “Boxing Day” and “A trip to Jamaica”. Rogers Ofime producer on the project also produced blockbuster films like ‘Oloibiri,’ as well as the award winning soap operas, like ‘Tinsel’ and ‘The Johnsons’. According to him, ‘Make Room’ has been the most difficult production of his entire 18-year career. Native Media Limited’s objective for ‘Make Room’ is to make a film capable of winning an Oscar in the Best Foreign Language Film category, so a lot of attention was given to all the details required to realize this objective. It is also hopes to tell the story of the 200 girls abducted in Chibok, so as to bring the world to better understanding of the situation. ‘Make Room’ was shot in location in Jos, Plateau state.
