CEO of Global Citizen, Hugh Evans, has announced on Monday, July 9th that Nigerian music stars Femi Kuti, Tiwa Savage, Wizkid and D’banj will headline this year’s edition of the Global Citizen Festival. Together with other celebrities, they will be lending their voices to a vision of ending poverty by 2030.
In celebration of the legacy of Mandela, they will be performing at the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 concert. The project is the largest ever campaign on ending extreme poverty. The global goal is in response to Nelson Mandela’s call to be the generation to achieve this goal.
The mega concert will take place on the 2nd of December 2018 at Johannesburg’s Soccer City, the FNB Stadium in South Africa. Performing on stage will be Jay Z and Beyonce, Pharell Williams, Ed Sheeran, Usher and Cassper Nyovest. Naomi Campbell, Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry and Gayle King are also expected to make appearances.
The artistes are convening with other dignitaries from the political and corporate space, as well as with 100,000 global citizens. By leveraging on the star power of celebrities from around the world to make a difference in the lives of youth, the event hopes to inspire social activism.
