The BVN registration is a directive given in February 2014, by the Central Bank of Nigeria to all commercial banks in the country to register all their customers biometrically in furtherance of the “Know Your Customer” policy. It is aimed at protecting bank customers and further strengthening the Nigerian banking system.
The BVN is also a unique number that enables an individual to have just a single identity in the banking system, regardless of how many accounts he/she has.
To make this process easier, Etisalat has recently partnered with the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), to launch a Bank Verification Number query service.
