Despite Nigeria’s lacklustre performance that saw it edged out from the race to the finals at the African Nations Championship, Coach Maxwell Konadu of Ghana considers the helmsman of the Super Eagles the best in Africa.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Black Stars of Ghana were goalless during the 90-minute regulation time, and an extra time of 30 minutes yielded no result. A penalty shootout was, therefore, necessary and Nigeria lost to its opponent 4-1, thus thwarting its mission of winning the tournament.
Nigeria will square up against Zimbabwe for the third place, while Ghana and Libya proceed to battle for the first and second place positions.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NANA), Konadu said he was impressed with how Coach Stephen Keshi had nurtured the local players and combined their talents to produce outstanding performances at the games.
“I do not think this game will change his status in Africa. I know Nigerians are behind him. They all respect him and what he has done with the local team.
“We know how African football is and I had said that he (Keshi) is the kind of man we need in African football.
“We all follow his steps and we are all learning from him as well. This is just but one match, I do not think, the outcome has changed his status,’’ he said.
