Saturday evening saw a large crowd at Terrakulture. I sat at the restaurant, sipping my fruit juice and smiling in comradeship at the others who also sat there to pass time. I did it discreetly though, couldn’t have them thinking I was a psycho. So these were my fellow fans. Some were dressed casually and some were dressed to the nines, some waited in the restaurant and some waited in the hall, but all were here for one purpose- Chimamanda.
She was coming here, at 6pm, to mark the release of her new book. I glanced at my bag just to make sure the N2,500 I had set aside for its purchase was still there, because I was definitely adding this book to my library. Nothing was going to stop me. Particularly exciting about this one was that it was going to be autographed by the woman herself. I could not wait!
And they didn’t make me wait, thank God. The event started right on time, with the hall filling up nicely. It began with the internationally-renowned journalist, Tolu Ogunlesi, who writes for CNN, Forbes, Huffington Post amongst many others, asking her questions related to her book.
It was like most of her Youtube interviews, and I couldn’t believe that I was attending one, live. I looked back to see if everyone was enjoying it as much as I was, and I saw that the hall was completely filed, with some people even standing. The whole back-and-forth was very enlightening, and it increased my desire to get the book, if only to understand what they were discussing some more.
When that was over, she sat at her designated spot and autographed the books, as we bought them. Paperbacks went for N2,500 and Hardbacks for N4,500.
It was a great experience. Afraid you may have missed one opportunity to see her? Luckily for you, there are two more. She will be appearing at Patabah Books, Shop B18 Adeniran Ogunsanya Mall, Surulere, by 1pm, on May 1st, and at Glendora, Ikeja City Mall, by 1pm on May 4th. If you can’t afford to see her you can catch her on Inspiration FM by 7pm, May 3rd, or on Smooth FM’s breakfast show, at 9.30am on Saturday, May 4th.
Thank me later.
