 The Imo State Government has reiterated its readiness to partner with the West African Examination Council (WAEC), and the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) respectively for a continuous sustenance of quality education in the state. The government made this promise on Wednesday, September 17th, 2014 while receiving management of the two examination bodies at Government House, Owerri. Governor Rochas Okorocha represented by the Chief of Staff, Sir Jude Ejiogu disclosed that one of the primary objectives of the rescue mission administration in the state was to take education to its enviable height adding that the Governor’s idea for making it free at all levels was to give children of the poor the access to quality education. Sir Ejiogu therefore challenged management of the two examination bodies to expedite action towards curbing every form of examination malpractices saying that the state government has put in place relevant logistics that guarantee Imo youths the needed access to qualitative and compulsory learning. The Chief of Staff while commending management of the two examination bodies for being competent in handling their duties, further assured them of the government’s willingness to provide computer equipped examination centres in the three zones of the state as part of her contribution for the enhancement of quality learning. He appealed to them to reciprocate the gesture by giving consideration to Imo, having emerged severally as the state with the largest number of examination applicants and described education as the highest industry in the state. In their separate speeches, Head of National Office of WAEC, Charles Eguridu commended the state government for making education free at all levels, saying that the initiative has made their job simple, even as he debunked the allegation that Imo State has the highest mass failure in the just concluded WAEC examination. For the JAMB Coordinator in Imo state, Mrs. Arukwe Patricia Chiago, examination malpractice has reduced to the barest minimum and revealed that the board has concluded all arrangements to transcend from paper-pencil examination to computer learning in a bid to curb all forms of cheating. She further pointed out that management of the board is happy with the level of quality education in the state which she said, was as a result of the free education programme.
