If you are in Lagos and you run a gym, restaurant, event center, spa, or religious center, you should read this.   

As Nigeria continues to ease the lockdown implemented in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lagos State Government has allowed most businesses to resume and requested that they adhere to certain restrictions and standards of hygiene and social distancing.

However, the state government had until recently prohibited schools, salons, spas, and places of worship from opening. It said these centers would remain closed until modalities had been worked out to allow for them to reopen safely.

Now, the state government is requesting owners of businesses it had barred from reopening during the initial phases of its easing of the lockdown to register with the Lagos State Safety Commission. These businesses could be allowed to reopen if they meet the criteria set out by the state.

This rule also applies to religious centers in Lagos.

How to Register to Reopen Your Business in Lagos

If your establishment is

• A hospitality company

• Event center

• Gym center

• Cinema

• Restaurant

• Night club

• Bar

• Religious center

You can follow these steps to register with the Lagos State Safety Commission:

1. Log on to the Lagos State Safety registration portal.

2. Provide the following where requested:

  • Business registration number
  • A valid email address
  • Phone number
  • The internal space size (in square meters)
  • Current maximum capacity (number of people you can accommodate)
  • Number of staff
  • Number of conveniences available
  • Safety policy document (optional but recommended)
  • Lagos state compliance certificate
  • Up to 6 pictures of your business premises showing front entry, interior, exterior, emergency exits, etc.

3. Upon completing your registration, you will receive an email containing your Unique Identification Number (UIN). Be sure to keep it with you.

4. The Lagos State Safety Commission will conduct a physical or virtual assessment of your premises within 7 and 14 working days from your registration date.   

5. You will be allowed to reopen if your workspace is deemed fit to do so.
