You need to know that many advice and teachings will fly at you in life. Most of them will be complete opposites of each other, but they will both be right. What should you do? Well, these are the things I consider when choosing what advice to take and I feel it might help you:

Assess Who You Are

This is important because you need to know if you are the target market for that advice or teaching. If you don’t know, that’s fine; there are other things to assess.

Assess The Context

In what context is this person speaking? Blessing says, “You have to create content,” Oprah says, “You don’t have to do anything.” Blessing may be talking about staying consistent while Oprah is talking about dealing with pressure. They are both right, but the context is different.

Assess Where You Are

Ask yourself, at this level you are in right now, does this advice apply to you? You want to niche down. Seth says you should have a Niche, Garyvee says you should do it all, they are both right, but it’s for people in different places in their lives. One is stuck, unsure about why they are not doing well. The other is stuck, hasn’t done much.

Assess Your Goals

What are you trying to achieve? Ellen says change your mentality to fit your environment, Obama says change your environment to suit your mentality. They are both right, but what is your goal? Are you trying to build a global product or a national product? Are you trying to impact yourself or a group of people? Your goals will help you decide.

Assess Your Values

What do you stand for? What would you never compromise? Someone says you need to fake it on social media by borrowing and lying, and people will respect you more. It’s not a lie. You can trick people, and we will believe you but is it in line with your values? Will you be proud when the truth comes out? A good example: You’ve probably heard me say niche down so many times, but you’ve also heard me say, try a bunch of different things. They are both right, but the first advice comes after the second. Before you can niche down, you need to have something to filter from. How would you know what you love or what you are good at if you have not tried anything? Assess yourself, context, goals, current position, and values. Paracetamol is excellent for a headache, but it cannot cure cancer. Learn to choose the advice that is best for you.
