The Global Teacher Prize is an annual one million dollar-award from the Varkey GEMS Foundation which is given to a super-special teacher who is innovative, caring and has made tremendous impact with outstanding contributions to the lives of students and the community.
The winner will be selected by an acclaimed team of the Teacher’s Prize Academy made up of people from different sectors of the economy ranging from head teachers, journalists, tech entrepreneurs and scientists.
The nominees must have innovative and effective instructional practices, and great leadership skills with quality teaching methods. The nominees must also have contributed to public debates by increasing the standard and outlook of the teaching profession.
The organizers, Varkey GEMS Foundation, seek to do for education what the Nobel Prize has done for peace, science and literature by uplifting the valuable contributions that teachers make daily worldwide to churn out global citizens and encourage others to join the profession.
