The Captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Vincent Enyeama has hinted that he will have to make way at some point for younger players in the team. Enyeama, who earned his 100th cap for Nigeria recently in a friendly match with Uganda, said he would love to carry on as long as possible but advised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to start searching for his replacement. “I will love to stay as long as possible but at some time you need to let it go. You need to let others take over. I really wish I can go on forever but I can’t, so Nigeria should start grooming someone to take over from me, and that is what I wish. But for now I don’t know how long I can go, so there has to be someone to take over.” He told thenff.com. The 32-year old goalkeeper made his debut for Nigeria in a friendly against Kenya in 2002 and put in a good performance that was enough to convince then Super Eagles handler, Festus Onigbinde to take him to the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea/Japan as Ike Shorumnu’s understudy. He featured in Nigeria’s last group game against England at the World Cup and has become Nigeria’s first choice goalkeeper since the retirement of Shorumnu in 2002. He lost his place to Austin Ejide in 2008 under German legend, Berti Vogts but was recalled to the side since Mr. Vogts left. Enyeama has since gone on to become one of the best goalkeepers in the history of African football.
