So in 2020, many Acts lied low and for the past year and while it is really not a contest to stay relevant, we cannot deny a good few of the guys on this list need a boost by putting out hits in the new year. Now, we must admit that the standards are a bit higher now because the hunger for content is almost insatiable since lockdown. If you would drop anything, it has to be voluminous as an EP or a full album as trends have dictated thus far.

The 30-year-old closed 2020 on a high with an acclaimed single Enjoy, but one cannot help the feeling that he could have done better for himself, maybe this year. It took almost a decade for the man to drop an album and if we were not in a pandemic that required social distancing, I am sure that would not have been the case. Just my opinion. But he has set himself up for a better outing this year. Let’s hope he follows through.

Tiwa Savage:

I know you are probably going to fight me but Tiwa Savage did not have the best year in spite of the fact that she dropped an album, Celia, last year. Honestly speaking, she did not hit previous heights. What is more? She did not take too kindly to the criticism she got from pundits and that too well with neutrals. She did not do badly be she can definitely do better and she has to do better in the new year.

The Empawa boss has had a lot on his plate and has been more of a business/music exec than a recording act in the last year or two. So clearly, he neither needs the money from touring and performing or streaming as he is doing fine otherwise. That regardless, his fans will hope he makes them proud this new year with some hits of his own as it has been a while.

This might be a long shot but here is me hoping Sean Tizzle wins the industry’s affection again. The guy makes good music and for some reason, he has not been able to hit those heady heights of 2013/14 when his partnership with D’Tunes saw bag a Headies Next Rated award. He got a shoutout from Wyclef Jean in the past week and I hope there is something there.

Skales needs a win. He has for the longest time. He has not been hot since Shake Body if we are being honest and that was six years ago. He just never locked in “an identity” for himself in the decade since he gained attention under Banky W’s EME Records. He went from a rapper to singer to part-time hype man cum influencer. I hope something clicks for him this year. He needs it.

Slimcase:

Now I know he is more a comedian than artiste but you can’t help but feel like music was the one place he was more likely to pop than anywhere else in entertainment. Slimcase may have just become a victim of a movement he propagated because just like that the industry seems to have moved on Zlatan Ibile and Naira Marley these days. I believe there is room for him yet and I hope he makes a comeback.  Featured image source: VangaurdNgr
