Solid waste management is a self-evident need in urban and rural areas of Nigeria. Our environment is ravaged by the effects of poor solid waste managements implementations, despite the policies and regulations by waste management authorities. Nigeria generates about 32 million tons of solid waste annually, and reckless disposal of these wastes has led to severe environmental issues including blockage of sewers and drainage systems, choking of water bodies, clutter of solid waste on our roads, just to mention a few. As many other African countries have begun doing, Nigeria must adopt the waste recycling method in other to control and properly mange municipal solid wastes in the nation. Today, quite a number of entrepreneurs have ventured into the environmental management business with the aim of sensitizing Nigerians on the importance of waste recycling.

Ecoprune

Ecoprune is an environmental solutions and green energy company, designed to provide innovative eco-friendly solutions and consulting services to individuals, communities and organizations. The company was founded in 2017 by two daring Nigerian women, Wunmi Ogunde and Sandra Onwuekwe, who saw the need to tackle a growing problem in the Nigerian environmental sector.

Wunmi is an Engineer with a Bachelors degree in Automatic control systems engineering from the University of Sheffield. She also holds an MSc in Manufacturing Systems Engineering from the University of Warwick, UK, where she birthed the zeal for environmental management.

Sandra, an alumnus of the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme, is a Medical Doctor who is very interested in public health, hence her passion for environmental management.
