  Let me begin by wishing you all a happy new year. Trust we all had a wonderful celebration. I’m pretty sure that as usual, we’ve gorged ourselves on food, meat and fizzy drinks. Even those on diet saw the festivities as the perfect opportunity to cheat. I’m not here to apportion blames because I’m also guilty. In fact, I’m convinced that there’s something about the festive air that causes us to throw caution to the wind and just eat everything we clap our eyes on.

Anyways, what’s done is done. But after feasting comes flushing. 2022 is still as fresh as today’s bread. Thus, we need to clean our system so that it will serve us well this year. This is where detoxification comes in. It is a process that allows the body’s detox organs (the kidney, liver, colon, skin, lungs and lymph) to cleanse themselves, eliminate waste products and toxins. So, what are detox drinks and how do they aid the detoxification process? Well, detox drinks are prepared with ingredients that are believed to support the work of the detox organs. Research indicates that a regular intake of these drinks can boost metabolism,  lead to weight loss and cause the skin to glow. The following are detox drinks that you can make at home: Lemon- Cucumber Detox Water: This drink is a refreshing blend of lemon, water, mint leaves and cucumber slices. The benefits of this detox drink are numerous. It can help to cleanse the gut and boost metabolism. It is also said to help the skin to glow. Therefore, if you make drinking lemon cucumber detox water a part of your morning routine, you will be healthier for it. Orange, Carrot and Ginger Drink: For you to understand the effectiveness of this detox drink, you have to know the capabilities of its content. Orange is rich in antioxidants and vitamin c. Carrot is loaded with beta carotene and fibre; these facilitate digestion and weight loss. Ginger is an ancient remedy for digestion, bloating, stomach cramps. Can you now see that the union of these ingredients will help to cleanse your system? Apple Cider Vinegar Drink: If you’re concerned about the weight you added during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, then, go for this detox drink. Studies indicate that apple cider vinegar has fat-burning properties; drinking one to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar has been linked to weight loss.

Now, the best thing about this detox drink is that it can be made in a twinkle of an eye. Just add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a tablespoon of fresh lemon juice to a cup of water and your detox drink is ready. Drink it warm at least twenty minutes before breakfast to activate metabolism. Aloe Vera Juice: Research indicates that aloe vera juice may support liver detoxification, weight loss and flawless skin. Make a habit of hydrating with a glass of aloe vera juice. Your liver and skin will thank you for it. Coconut Water with Lemon and Mint: This lovely three-ingredient drink tastes really good but it understands the assignment too. Coconut with lemons and mint leaves will cleanse your liver and intestinal tracts; it will leave you fresh. Lemona: Detox doesn’t sound serious when you’re doing it with this drink. But you had best believe that a tall refreshing glass of lemona is all the detox magic you need. In case you’re wondering, I did not make a mistake with the name. Lemona is different from lemonade. It’s basically a blend of lemon and mint leaves sweetened with honey. Beet Juice: I love the vibrant colour of this juice. It tells me that detox doesn’t have to be boring. But what I love even more is the fact that this juice is loaded with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. This is just what you need. Finally, as you take these drinks, keep in mind that a healthy eating habit is the best support that your body’s detox organ.
