There are many skills that collectively develop our innate nature. In simplest terms, analytical skills describe our ability to understand and solve riddle-like problems using the information that is available to us.

Ways to develop your strategic and analytical skills:

Be a collector: Collect ideas, stories, samples, people, and insights. This is the best way to generate new ideas. Set goals: Successful strategic thinking involves goal setting, and a commitment to achieve the goals you’ve set out for yourself. Think big: Set aside time where you can brainstorm a vision for the future and the goals that will get you there. Be an organizer: After you’ve collected ideas, insights, etc. you must also be an organizer of the information. Create a website or a blog to store your thoughts as well as develop new ones. Be open: Keep your mind open and aware of new directions to take your business or new opportunities. Make connections: connect with other people who can help you to achieve your goals.

To sharpen your skills, there are simple daily activities you need to sharpen/improve your skills:

1)      Work out mathematical problems: solving calculation problems would allow you to pay close attention to details you may have perhaps missed out. Identify math problems in everyday life and take out time to solve the issues.

2)      Play Brain Games: One of the best ways of improving your skill is to take out time by confronting them in games, logic puzzles; like crosswords and riddles, board games like scrabble, strategy-based board games like chess; Sudoku, Rubik’s Cube, problem-solving word games, card/video games that require strategy

3)      Join a Debate/ reading club:  Increase your knowledge by engaging in discussions that would have you dissecting issues. You could just argue about sports or your favorite celebrity, or better still politics. Just make sure you argue constructively.

4)      Build a large knowledge base: Read, read specifically and read extensively. You are what you read. The information you have would only last for 1 year and six months, so you daily need to develop yourself. Attend lectures, conferences, take online classes. Daily expand your worldview.
