While the whole world continues the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Melvin Pinnick, has stated that world football will not remain same after the end of the pandemic. The Nigerian football chief admitted that the round leather game has suffered major hits and setbacks due to Covid-19.

Football has taken a major hit with this Covid-19. Let’s start with the English Premier League: On television broadcast right alone, the Premier League has lost 800 million pounds. The Italian Serie A has lost 750million euro while the Spanish La Liga has also lost about 780 million euro

Commenting further, Pinnick noted that the situation is not different with the Tokyo 2020 Olympics which had to be postponed to the summer of 2021 due to the fast spreading virus. Reacting on the situation in Nigeria, Pinnick stated that the virus has halted the plans of the NFF including the long awaited celebration of the 1999 Super Falcons set that made it to the quarter finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in USA for the first time in Nigeria’s history.

We were planning to celebrate the Super Falcons of the class of 1999 because they have been able to give Nigeria what no other sector has done. We are planning to celebrate them for reaching the quarter finals of the Women’s World Cup n USA. We have already spoken with FIFA President, Gianni Infantino and he had accepted to be part of it. We don’t know if that will hold anymore.

Football activities in Nigeria including the domestic league were suspended owing to the outbreak of the virus in Nigeria as the most populous black nation on earth join the rest of the world in containing the spread of Covid-19.
