The 8th of March of every year has been observed as International Women’s Day since 1977, when it was declared by the United Nations. However, Nigeria’s number one online information portal, Connect Nigeria, celebrated this year’s International Women’s Day on the 9th of March, 2020.

Women should be celebrated everyday, however, 8th of March every year has been set aside as a day to look back at the journey of the advancement of women’s rights, the current state of Women’s rights, and how bright the future is for everything that concerns the elevation of women. Questions like, do they have better working conditions, speaking conditions, cultural conditions, religious conditions, educational conditions, are asked. In general, the societal atmosphere of women is assessed.

The strides, struggles, leaps, sufferings of women all over the world, at large and Nigeria in particular can never be overlooked. The Woman Question or Gender Question is a trend that can no longer be swept under the carpet of world and local discuss. In light of these, Connect Nigeria, a socially responsible and conscious organisation decided to pitch their tent in celebration of everything Women.

Women’s Rights are at the centre of interest of all International Women’s Day. The Theme of this year’s celebration is, I Am Generation Equality: realizing Women’s rights. Connect Nigeria is keen on vocalising and contributing her own quota to better societal conditions for women, especially in Nigeria.
