Mustapha Dogo, head coach of Nasarawa Amazons basketball club, has asked the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) to be build on its communication with clubs in the country.

Dogo recalled that last year, clubs were were only given a week’s notice to prepare for the 2018 Zenith Women Basketball League. For clubs who were not on intensive training before the period, it was quite difficult to measure up and compete effectively during the the tourney.

Dogo pointed out that better communication between the NBBF and club owners would give the teams ample time to prepare for and put in their very best when the league begins.

Zenith Women’s Basketball League

Although an official date is yet to be set for the 2019 edition of the National Women Basketball League (also known as the Zenith Women Basketball League), clubs have begun preparations for the games.

The NBBF divided the league into two conferences — the Atlantic Conference and the Savannah Conference.

The best four teams from both conferences will meet in the final round to decide who wears the women’s basketball crown. The league serves as qualification for the FIBA Africa Women’s Clubs Champions Cup.

We plead that they should give us at last one month notice, if not two or three months, so that we will have enough time to intensify preparations and train adequately.

The state government, who are our owners and sponsors, will also have enough time to approve our participation in the league.

We cannot participate in the league if they did not give us the permission and the approval and most teams are sponsored by state governments.

Dogo said his team has been training tirelessly, and are ready to put in every effort to finish in top four from the Atlantic Conference.
