Burna boy made quite an impression at the recently held Soundcity MVP Awards. The afro-fusion artiste, whose name is Damini Ogulu, won the most plaques – four in total at the 2019 edition of the awards which held last weekend in Lagos. He won the ‘Song of the Year’, ‘Listener’s Choice’ and ‘Best Male MVP’ but the highpoint, of course, was his winning the ‘African Artiste of the Year’. The star artiste’s mother came on stage to collect the singer’s 3rd award. While receiving the plaque, she thanked music producer, Phantom, for his contribution to the making of the hit song “Ye” and contributing to the success of her son’s career. Other winners at the star-studded award ceremony were Davido, Patoranking, Mr. Eazi, Wande Coal and more, who were selected by a committee of stakeholders in the music and entertainment industry as well as Soundcity viewers and fans of the artistes. The votes were conducted on the awards official website. The Soundcity MVP Awards 2019 also featured live performances from Nigerian music industry revelations of 2018; Teni, Victor AD and Niniola. The event held at Eko Hotel, Victoria Island on the 5th of January. Although fans have had the opportunity of voting their MVPs on the website since 2007, the award ceremonies only took off in  2016, with Wizkid winning the African artiste of the year.
