  Nigerian sprinter, Blessing Okagbare, has been on a record-breaking spree recently. After achieving a double personal best in the American Track League on Sunday, February 7, 2021, the fastest Nigerian woman is in the headlines again for receiving the Guinness World Record certificate for the athlete with the highest appearances in the Diamond League.

The record which was previously held by Jamaican sprint king and one of the greatest sprinters in world athletic history, Usain Bolt, was broken by Okagbare who has participated in 67 IAAF Diamond League events. In an official statement released by Guinness Book of World Records, it was disclosed that the Nigerian broke Usain Bolt’s record with participations between July 3, 2010, and August 31, 2018.

‘The most appearances in Diamond League meetings by an athlete is 67, achieved by Blessing Okagbare (Nigeria) in the 100 metres, 200 metres and long jump disciplines between 3 July 2010 and 31 August 2018.’ Guinness Book of World Records
Reacting to the news, Okagbare, 32, who also holds the record for women’s 100m Commonwealth Games 100m fastest time (10.85s) took to her Instagram page to express her delight towards achieving her dreams.
