Nigeria’s creative industry has in the past few years grown by leaps and bounds despite the government’s seeming lack of support. Young Nigerians have attempted the impossible, gaining international recognition through their film, music, photography, fashion, literature, theatre, technology, and poetry. Two of such people who are making something beautiful out of almost nothing are Titilope Sonuga and Efe Paul Azino, exceptional spoken word artists of international renown.

The two leading performance poets, who were recently involved in the scripting and production of Heritage Bank’s TV campaigns, have set up Creative Africa, an art, culture and creative agency aimed at building global platforms for African creative expression. Creative Africa will serve as the hub where individuals and organizations who desire to harness the continent’s finest creative talent come to.

The agency has produced the Lagos International Poetry Festival and plans to run workshops and master classes to cater to the needs and knowledge gaps in different sectors of the creative industry.  It will represent artists, work with organizations and individuals who want to engage the public through the arts, and also produce content. So far, Creative Africa has racked up an impressive list of important clients which include Heritage Bank, Nigerian Breweries Plc, British American Tobacco, First Bank, and more.

Sonuga is an award-winning poet, writer, and performer. She became the first poet to appear at a Nigerian presidential inauguration after her May 2015 performance at Eagles Square. Azino is one of Nigeria’s leading performance poets. He is the founder and director of the Lagos International Poetry Festival, and the director of poetry at the annual Lagos Book and Art Festival.
