Super Falcons and Liverpool FC forward, Asisat Oshoala, has been shortlisted for the first edition of the British Broadcasting Corporation Women’s Footballer of the Year award. She  is the present African Women’s Footballer of the Year. Asisat Oshoala was nominated along with four others: Spain’s Verónica Boquete, Germany’s Nadine Kessler, Scotland’s Kim Little and Brazil’s Marta Vieira da Silva. Like the BBC Africa Footballer of the Year award, fans are expected to vote online through the BBC website or by SMS for their favourite player to increase her chances of winning the award. Voting will close on 11th May and the winner will be announced on 26th May, 2015. The controller of BBC World Service English, Mary Hockaday, said, “The five shortlisted players represent an incredible array of talent and show the growing strength of the women’s game. The vote is now open to fans to choose their favourite player.”

Asisat Oshoala said she felt very appreciated to be nominated.

“I worked hard last year so I am not surprised to be nominated but I feel very appreciated. This award is a very good thing for women’s football. It can really help us by encouraging other countries to support their ladies more and treat them the same way they treat the men,” she said.
