Are you a Nigerian student who’s passionate about leadership, and has sights set on becoming a public office holder in the future? There’s an opportunity for you to get valuable insights on leadership that could help you on the path to realizing your dream.
Rise Networks, with support from the Ford Foundation, is organizing the Nigerian Student Leaders Program (NSLP), a week-long boot camp for student leaders aiming to use their current student union leadership role as a platform to launch a career in public service. The program is expected to identify and equip 20 outstanding student leaders with the leadership skills they need to contribute positively to the evolution of a Nigerian political system in which youths are more actively involved.
Trainings will be conducted by notable leaders in the social, public and private sectors, and will cover a wide range of themes, including policy making and negotiation strategies, creative communication and citizen engagement in public service, leadership models, and lessons in ethics. There will also be in-depth studies of the structure and function of the arms of government in Nigeria, and an examination of the country’s political history, with a view to learning valuable lessons about leadership.
Students who are members of their campus Student Union Government executive council, faculty council, departmental association executive, or hostel government can enter for the program. Eligible students should visit Rise Networks’ website to fill the online registration form and upload a manifesto of no more than 1,000 words, detailing actions they would take to help improve the lives of people they intend to serve in their future role as public office holders. Applications will be accepted until Thursday, December 7, 2016. Persons selected for the program will be contacted by Rise Networks. The organizers will also cover the cost of feeding, hotel accommodation and travel for successful applicants, and will present students who attend the boot camp with certificates of honour at the end of the program.
The boot camp will hold from December 11 to December 17, 2016.
