Airtel Nigeria has finally launched their 4GLTE service, and they chose to roll it out first in the city of Ibadan, Oyo state. The official launch was heralded by a special event that held in Ibadan on the 13th of February, 2018 with some very notable guests in attendance, including Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, Deputy Governor of Oyo State; Sen. Ademola Adeleke, Senator representing Osun West, Osun, and Sen. Olabiyi Durojaiye, Chairman, Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC). The announcement was made by the CEO of Airtel Nigeria, Segun Ogunsanya, who also confirmed that the Airtel 4GLTE service would hit other cities across the country in the months ahead. Before the official launch of the 4G service in Ibadan, Airtel took to Twitter to tease users, and also create some hype for the event. A good number of network subscribers in Nigeria hold the opinion that Airtel offers the best data services as can be seen from their reactions on Twitter to the news of 4G availability in Ibadan city. For Airtel subscribers in Ibadan, accessing the 4G LTE service would require you to swap your current SIM card for a 4G enabled SIM at any Airtel retail outlet in Ibadan. Also, dial *121# to check if your Phone/SIM is 4G enabled. New subscribers can just purchase a new 4G enabled SIM card and enjoy unbelievable data speeds. Getting on the network comes with some nifty benefits from Airtel. The telco offers free 4GB of data when you swap your SIM or purchases a new SIM, and 25% on every data bundle purchase above N500 for the next 3 months. Airtel is also offering 4G MiFi devices at a reduced rate of N10,000. After the launch event on Tuesday, Airtel mobile offices were seen moving around different parts of Ibadan, so people can quickly switch up their SIM cards for the 4G enabled one, and start enjoying great data speeds and other benefits that accrue. 5 lucky attendees of the 4G network launch in Ibadan received one 4G enabled phone each from the MD of Airtel Nigeria CEO, Segun Ogunsanya. MTN, GLO and 9Mobile may have launched their 4G service over a year ago, but still, the service seems to circulate only around certain cities like Lagos, Port-Harcourt and Abuja. The South Eastern states have probably never had a taste of 4G service. Hopefully, Airtel will broaden their 4G network reach in time to include much more cities, especially in the south-east.
