Inaugural Parade Held After Swearing In Ceremony

Michelle Obama clocked 50 years a few days ago. A role model for women all over the world, she is the bridge between feminism and women oppression. Behind the pleasant personality she exudes are ingrained values that reflect a virtuous woman. Connect Nigeria celebrates Michelle by sharing 7 attributes that make her an exemplary figure for women the world over to model after. 1. Graceful and dignified:  Michelle Obama has always shown that she knows what it means to be a woman. In her looks, she maintains the balance between edginess and tenderness. Her appearance goes a long way to tell you what strength of character this elegant woman possesses. Never drab, never loud, her outfits are just perfect, fitting the occasion; precisely for her. michelle-obama-600 2. Supportive: “Behind President Barack Obama, Michelle stands.” She has, through her public and private actions, shown she is in support of her husband through thick and thin and that she is a great mom. Her position as the First Lady did not rub out of her mind her position as a wife and as a mother. Proof she has handled fame with her domestic roles well are the commending smiles she gets from women all over the world, the lighted face of President Obama when he looks at her and the closeness of her daughters to her.

3. Physically and mentally fit: At fifty, the skin starts to sag and give away its firmness but that is proving wrong in her case. At fifty, Michelle is still as strong as she looked during her young years. She has made it a custom of exercising and her radiant and formidable looks at fifty are the result of how much she has put into being physically fit. Her plan is to do more Yoga than physical exercises as she clocks fifty to keep her flexible and accurate in mind and body.

4. Career minded: She is a woman who, also, is success-minded. She is not restricted or limited by her role as a mother and wife. Since she was a little girl, she has shown the drive for success. She skipped second grade. Graduated a salutatorian from Whitney M. Young Magnet High School, Chicago in 1981. Graduated cum laude from Princeton in 1985 and a Law Degree from Harvard. In 1991, she founded the Chicago chapter of Public Allies, a nonprofit that offers leadership training to young adults pursuing public service careers. She is currently known as an advocate for poverty awareness, nutrition and healthy eating.

5. Confident: She is not afraid to bare her mind and what she bares are said so convincingly because she believes in them. She helped campaign fearlessly for her husband’s presidential bid in 2007 and 2008. As the First Lady, she is known to speak her mind about issues she believes in. At a time when negative views came up during the days of her husband’s presidential campaign, she had responded, “Barack and I have been in the public eye for many years now, and we’ve developed a thick skin along the way. When you’re out campaigning, there will always be criticism. I just take it in stride, and at the end of the day, I know that it comes with the territory.” Obama Accepts Nomination On Final Day Of Democratic National Convention 6. Honest: She is always clear and true about which sides she stands on issues relating to politics and public opinion. In some statements she made on race, on gun control and on gay rights, she knew they were unpopular statements but she made them anyway because she strongly believed in them. Not many Americans are happy with the idea of gun control but she was not afraid to speak out her mind against gun violence after the tragic death of Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year old Chicago teen. 1350409147_barack-obama-michelle-obama-lg 7. She is not afraid to show affection in public as she gives great hugs and kisses whenever the mood catches up with her.
