Three business incubation centers in Africa have been recognized as the best performing university business incubators by UBI Global, a leader in performance analysis of business incubators around the world. Last week, UBI Global hosted an online award ceremony for the 2015 High Impact Incubation Programmes in Africa and named Technology Incubation Centre in Nigeria, m:lab East Africa based in Nairobi, Kenya and the Timbali Technology Incubator in South Africa as the three best. These incubators stand out from other average-performing incubation programmes with better outcomes on economy enhancement, access to funds and post incubation performance indicators. Ali Hassan, UBI Global Chief Executive Officer spoke about the performance level of African business incubators, “Our African business incubation landscape is made up of 19 incubators, making Africa the fifth largest region UBI Global benchmarks in terms of sample size. Africa’s business incubators attracted a total of US$15.4 million, meaning each of the 19 incubators has received an average of US$814,000 each. With regard to deal flow, Africa’s incubators, as a whole, receive 1,169 applications per year, equating to an average of 87 applications per incubator. In the last five years Africa’s business incubators have created 3,150 jobs.” The three incubators have been shortlisted for the UBI Global World Rankings in London, United Kingdom taking place today.
