There’s so much buzz in the air about the anticipated release of Djinee’s new pre-album, a compilation of fresh and semi-new songs that would be dropped on Wednesday. We managed to track him down and get him to answer some of the questions you might have had. Here was how it went: So everyone is excited about the news of your pre-album launch. What is it going to be called? -I mean, the pre-album is simply called, The Pre-album (laughs). You’re going to get the three songs I released last year- i.e We Dey Here, On Me and Lovers Rock. Now people already have that. So what they’re looking forward to on Wednesday, next week are two singles, and they’re titled Alright and Wonder. These two tracks are new; they’re fresh, and together with the three songs from last year…that’s what we have as a pre-album. Sounds exciting, I’m sure most people can’t wait. Are you using this as a medium to usher your re-entry into the music scene? Erm…when you say re-entry, I mean, I never really left, I’ve been, you know, working behind the scenes. I mean there’s the business of the music that needs to be taken care of, and that is paramount on my mind- as much as you want to stay in front of the camera, you want to take care of behind the camera. So this is not a re-entry. Like I said, last year I had singles that were released and they did quite well, but this time I’m going all out. Let’s say I’m playing football, we’re trying to up the ante, and that is what I’m doing. So re-entry I would say no, doing better I would say yes. djinee When you say “going all out”, does this mean we should expect more soon? Well, it just means my house is more in order than it was last year, and the years before. You know I’m just doing everything possible; I’m putting in more effort now. I guess that’s what life is all about; you keep trying and trying to be better and better so, I mean I’m going all out more than I did last year, so I’m doing more this year. Just a lot of effort with promotions and you know, getting my house in order, basically. Yes, that is indeed what life is all about. Let’s talk about the new singles. What inspired them? For Wonder it was purely artistic. I have always loved highlife music, and I just wanted to make something that has a highlife tinge. I recorded Wonder with a guitar live. I always wanted to produce a song where I could get live musicians, live sessions and there is a guitarist friend of mine called Jacklyn so I said you know what Jacklyn? Let’s hook this up! It’s love themed and it’s something you could play at your weddings. I’ve just always loved all these natural love songs so it just works for me. -For Alright (laughs), it was purely comical. I just thought- what would a bunch of guys and girls, you know, chilling in a beer parlour want to sing about? And ‘Alright’ just came to mind. Everything is going to be alright. So yeah it just a fun song. Is there anything you want to say to your fans out there? -I want to use this opportunity to thank everyone reading right now, all my fans who have always loved my music, who have always stayed loyal, who have always prayed for me- and trust me the prayers are working (laughs). I’m happy to be a blessing to not just myself but to a lot of people too. I think that’s what life is all about- when you’re able to take a lot of people along with you. This music is not just for me, it’s for thousands of other people who, just by listening to me sing, they believe. Peace! Cheers. We can’t wait! We love his traditional love songs too, and who doesn’t want to sing with a beer or two in hand? Thank you for your time Djinee. We look forward to hearing the songs.
