With less than a year left until the general elections in Nigeria, citizens have expressed eagerness towards deciding the fate of their nation.

Ruling Nigerian electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has disclosed that over 6 million Nigerians have registered in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise in all parts of the federation. INEC made this disclosure on Monday, February 21, 2022, during its CVR Quarter 3, Week 7 update. The electoral body further disclosed that as of Monday, February 21, 3,329,204 Nigerians had completed the registration process.

Out of 6,082,639 Nigerians that have taken part in the exercise, INEC noted that 1,373,240 registrants enrolled online while 1,955,964 registered physically in locations across Nigeria, with the number of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) who took part in the exercise standing at 28,711.

For gender distribution of registrants, 1,675,318 Nigerians that have enrolled in the electoral exercise so far are male, while 1,653,886 are women. The turnout for the Nigerian youth population which has been clamouring for change in the political situation of the country stood at 2,310,554 for young people between the ages of 18 and 34.

Further, a total of 10,329,413 million registered voters requested for replacement of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), applied for voter transfer, and voter information records. Of these figures, 5,506,557 million applications are of the male gender while the female gender stands at 4,822,856 million, and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) at 100,610.
