  Chief coach of the Nigerian national team, Gernot Rohr, has handed an invitation to 24 players that will prosecute Nigeria’s all-important 2022 AFCON qualifying matches against Benin Republic on March 27, 2021, and Lesotho on March 30. The list comprises three goalkeepers, eight defenders, five midfield players, and eight forwards/strikers.

Team captain, Ahmed Musa, leads the pack despite being without a club for a while now, alongside Watford FC of England defender, Troost-Ekong, Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Wilfred Ndidi, and a host of others. The duo of Enyimba FC goalkeeper, John Noble, and Almeria of Spain striker, Sadiq Umar, were both handed their first invitation to the senior national team, while Reading FC of England star, Michael Olise, who is also eligible to feature for France and England, was placed on the standby list by the German tactician.

Nigeria tops Group E of the AFCON qualifiers with 8 points, one point ahead of Benin who they will play against at the Stade Charles de Gaulle in Porto-Novo on March 27, before completing the qualifiers phase against Lesotho at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos State on March 30.
