It could be a quarrelsome spouse, a toxic co-worker, or an irritating neighbour that is always emitting negative vibes around you.

The painful truth is that it is easier for negativity to get to you than positivity. Beyond that, negativism can be quite detrimental to your physical, mental and emotional health. It can lead to a mindset of fatalism, defeatism and even cynicism. Successful people flow within an atmosphere of positivity. The most productive people insulate themselves from a negative environment. Staying far from negativity can help you lead in various facets of life – from academics to business, to marriage, to relationship and even beyond. Therefore, in order to be productive, you must learn to insulate yourself from toxicity. In this article, I am going to show you five ways to insulate yourself from negativity.
  • Prioritize Solutions Above Problems

The best way to protect yourself from negativity is to focus on solutions and not the problems. Successful people, when faced with challenges, focus on how to solve them rather than being tied down by what had gone wrong. In fact, the mind, when hacked towards looking for a solution, causes a burst of energy. They focus on their strengths rather than their weaknesses, and they use their strengths to upscale.
  • Avoid Drama

When you are faced with a toxic person, who is hell-bent on frustrating you, the best response is to avoid drama. The best way to treat a negative person is to starve them of drama, by maintaining your cool and refusing to fall for their bait. In a case where your life is threatened, get the authorities involved. Don’t be tempted to clap back, as that would give negative people something to feed on.

  • Define Your Relationships

Create boundaries in your life. You hold the key to whoever comes into your life. The truth is that there are people you are better off without. You don’t expect to make progress in life when you surround yourself with negative people. Define what goes on in your life when it comes to the association. And make sure you also not cross your boundaries.
  • Understand That You Can’t Solve All The Problems In The World

Avoid being a dumping site for people’s problems. You mustn’t give ear to all complaints and problems. Never solve a person’s problem if he or she can. You aren’t helping yourself, neither are you helping them.  You must jealously guard your time, money and peace of mind. Know your limitations, and let others know too. You can lend a helping hand, however, be careful not to weep more than the bereaved.
  • Take Care Of Yourself

Positivity stems from a healthy body and mind. Ensure you are not worked up or overworking yourself. Rest, sleep, and self-care are the hallmarks of protecting yourself from negativity.
