The Jack Ma Foundation has announced that it is accepting applications from entrepreneurs across Africa for Africa’s Business Heroes (ABH) Competition. If you are a business founder and owner and you would like to win a significant grant for your business (and get continent-wide exposure while at it), you may consider applying for this competition.

Africa’s Business Heroes is designed to identify, inspire, and support African entrepreneurs who are making a positive impact in the communities and regions in which they are active. These businesses must solve pressing problems and be eager to build an inclusive and sustainable economy for their localities and countries.

Ten finalists will be selected from the pool of applicants to participate in a TV show that will be broadcast across Africa and will participate in the grand finale pitch competition for a chance to share the $1.5 million in grant money available.

Benefits

Entrepreneurs who take part in this competition will benefit from it in the following ways:

  • Receive a share of a prize pool of $1.5 million (available to the top 10 finalists), with the first prize winner taking $300,000 worth of grant funds
  • Strengthen their pitching and fund-raising efforts via the application process, and receive feedback and advice from business professionals and experienced entrepreneurs

  • Get trained in investment readiness, financial management, marketing, and talent sourcing
  • Get mentored by global business figures
  • Gain global recognition and exposure via press releases, news articles, social media, and Africa’s Business Heroes Show, which will be broadcast in more than 40 African countries

Eligibility

Persons who wish to participate in the program are expected to meet these conditions:

  • Should be a founder or co-founder of their company
  • TheircompanymustberegisteredandheadquarteredinanAfricancountry
  • Must be an African citizen, or the child or grandchild of an African citizen
  • Their company must be in its post-idea stage and must have generated revenues for at least three years

The Application Process

  • Visit the competition’s website (linked at the end of this article) and create an account
  • Answer questions about yourself (as a founder) and your business
  • Provide references that the organizers can contact if you progress through the competition
  • Submit videos of yourself and a customer which will help the organizers learn more about you and what you do

Applications will remain open until June 7, 2022.
