We believe in peace, love, joy, happiness and we would even prefer having humorous conversations at all times if possible. This is what being special and being successful is all about today. However, success and greatness are qualities of exceptionally specific characteristics; characteristics or virtues which if exhibited will promote success and greatness in our lives. The special ones are those people that can identify these characteristics, act on them as required, and always attract success.
Here are a few of those important characteristic virtues that mark success:
1. Ability to recognise the right or correct opinion or choice: All great and successful people possess this ability. They have an intuitive ability to make the right choice even when every one else thinks otherwise. They are sometimes labeled outcasts, bystanders or rejects only to later be called geniuses, standouts or exceptional. This can be acquired by inculcating the habit of scrutinizing every decision of yours whether it is serious or not. Know why you must do something or why you must not. Avoid sentiments that will blur your vision and cloud your judgement.
2. Knowledge: The platform upon which great men thrive is knowledge. When you have knowledge about something, then you can make the right decision about it. But how will you know when you don’t realise you don’t know and why you need to know? Read and read and read. You will discover the treasure of wisdom.
3. Understanding: Ability to understand any situation, activity or engagement before committing time, energy and service is one of the virtues of successful people. Understand yourself, your passion, your drive. When you know something, your ability to apply your knowledge depends on your grasp or hold on the situation that requires your attention. Understand before you act.
4. Patience: Patience must be practiced at all times. It saves time, because it actually prevents unnecessary errors which will require more time to correct. Know when to wait!
5. Personality: This can attract opportunities. You don’t necessarily have to be a saint or reverend to be a good man. You can start with being truthful, objective, dutiful, diligent and trustworthy in your quest for greatness and success. People and corporations prefer to deal with someone with a credible personality, who knows his or her job well enough and understands the ethics of the business. For instance, you can’t expect to last long in a workplace when your resumption time is always past schedule and you are noted for perpetually seeking leave or time off; thereby overworking other staff, increasing the workload and reducing efficiency of the group. This is unethical.
6. Exceptional qualities: Selfless acts like putting in extra effort and extra time distinguish the special people from the ordinary people. You will always be the first to get a recommendation and gain an edge in your workplace or the business world because being successful takes sacrifices which are at times too precious to give or render. But this is what makes one special.
So, special things happen to special people because of these common but rarely practiced virtues and abilities they indulge in and express with flair. We all have the potential and affinity for greatness and success but only special people achieve success. Are you ready to be special?
