Remember tomorrow brings new opportunities Your thoughts and feelings about today do not signify what tomorrow brings. If you failed at achieving your goals for the day, know that each new day is a chance to start afresh. Take the leap and set new goals for yourself, knowing that you can always improve your strategies for achieving those goals. Avoid generalising Depression often makes people ignore all the things that went right in a situation and focus on the one thing that went wrong. Try to stop over generalising. Cast your mind back to all the good things about that event or day. You can write down all the things you think went wrong and all the things that right. Doing this may help you realise how much you’ve been focusing on the negative aspects of that situation and failing to appreciate the positive ones. Start journaling Journaling is a great way to analyse the negative thoughts that contribute to your depression. Merely thinking about a depressing situation will not help you get over it.

Write or journal about it and you might be able to identify your unhelpful thinking patterns and change them for good. Spend time with friends and loved ones While depression might make you isolate yourself from friends and family, research has shown that this kind of isolation only leads to more depression. Try to spend time in person with them. And if you can’t have face-to-face contact with them, phone calls or face-time may be helpful. Avoid thinking you are a burden to them. And realise that they may need you around just as much as you need them. Consider creating a routine Following a routine is one of the best ways to strengthen your mental health. This is because it puts you in control of your day, which can be helpful for getting over depression. A daily routine does not have to for the entire day. You can create a routine for the morning, right before bed, the weekend, or whenever is comfortable for you. Doing this will help you keep up with the pace of the day and can serve as motivation for achieving your goals.
