Over the past few matches, Chelsea has experienced a significant drop in their performance, and of course in points gained, having only won twice in eleven games in all competitions. Chelsea’s manager, Antonio Conte has been under severe fire from fans and a few others for his wrong calls this season, and after their last defeat to Watford, it’s shocking that the Manager is still on the books for The Blues. A major criticism has been focused on his formation tactics (3-5-2). Unlike in the 2016-2017 season run, where the Manager debuted his 3-4-3 tactic against Hull City, which earned him a 2-0 victory and was the beginning of the league table climb from the 8th position to Premier League Champions. In the 3-4-3 tactic, Conte planted two ‘trojan horses’; two wing-backs providing cover in the form of Marcos Alonso, on the left-hand side and Victor Moses, on the right-hand side. The new tactic moved Chelsea four positions up the league table at the end of October, and in November, they moved up another four positions and won the Premier League title, with Chelsea Manager, Conte winning the ‘Premier League Manager of the Month’ title. Moses, on the other hand, was at his best in Conte’s 3-4-3 plan, it would seem that he was in his dream position and it helped improve more on his strengths and hide his flaws. Moses’ numbers went up drastically and to many, the players bright future was very certain. However since the season begun, Moses has experienced a seasoned decline in his performance, and his numbers have since plummeted. So what happened to Conte and Moses? My best guess is as good as yours. Since Conte switched back to the 3-5-2 tactic, Moses has underperformed in his current position as he has failed to create chances for his teammates, which is his sole job in the midfield. His strengths haven’t been amplified as they were in previous seasons, instead, we’ve seen him fail time and time again, and have exposed his weak areas to opponents. The Nigeria International is a better forward than he is a back-man, though he needs a lot of work on his finishes time and a Premier league title has proven that playing the right wing back position would definitely enhance Moses’s strengths. In an interview, Conte disclosed that it would be hard for The Blues to make a positive turn, after all, the losses they have experienced so far. Nonetheless, I suppose that if he would play his title-winning tactic, Chelsea may very well stand a chance to make something out of there remaining season matches, rather than stay and be whooped by league bottom teams.   Featured Image Credit: www.dailypost.ng
