Abba who expressed optimism at the array of players in the country’s basketball squad, stated that the least the team should give Nigerians at the global showpiece is a quarter-final place in Tokyo. The former Gombe Bulls, Kada Stars, Dodan Warriors, Bauchi Nets, and Nigerian Customs basketball star is delighted at the fact that at least six D’Tigers players currently ply their trade in the NBA, something he believes should propel the African champions to success in Japan.
Our chances are quite bright. For the first time, we have like six or more NBA players in the team. There are experienced players like Farouk and Diogu in the team so we can go as far as the quarter-finals or even semis. We have the capacity to go far but D’Tigers must play as a team. Once they do that it will be easy for them to compete against their opponents. We know the statistics of our opponents in the Olympics so it is now left for us to do our home work -Mohammed Abba

He went further to urge the players not to loose guard on their level of commitment to the national team and their determination to progress at the global scene as it will help them spring surprises in Asia next year.
My only concern is that sometimes, these players choose to play safe to avoid injuries….I believe that if they do away with such thoughts and fear, they would go far in the games Abba
