  Following coach Otis Hugely’s release of a 15-woman provisional list for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the Ogwumike sisters have found themselves on the brink of history as the trio were all included in the squad expected to be trimmed down to 12 before hostilities commence.

2012 WNBA number one overall draft, and 2016 WNBA Most Valuable Player, Nneka Ogwumike, who plies her trade with Los Angeles Sparks, made the cut alongside her sisters, Chineye Ogwumike who represented the United States at the u-18 and u-19 categories before switching allegiance to Nigeria, and Erica Ogwumike, the youngest of the Ogwumike sisters. As expected, team captain, Adaora Elonu, who was selected as an assistant captain to Aruna Quadri for Team Nigeria at the Olympics, made the squad. The trio of Ezinne Kalu (Landerneau, France), Promise Amukamara (Charnay BB of France), and Atonye Nyingifa (Porta XI Ensino, Spain), are also some of the regular faces listed by Otis Hugely as they look forward to making their Olympic debut. The only player in the Nigerian squad to have featured in an Olympic, Aisha Balarabe, made the cut alongside the longest standing member of the WNBA side, Atlanta Dream, Elizabeth Williams, and Victoria Macauly.

Louisville point guard, Elizabeth Balogun, is also expected to team up with 23-year-old Centre, Palas Kunayi-Akpannah, who plays for Italian Serie A side, Pallacanestro Vigarano. Others include: Ifunanya Ibekwe, Amy Okonkwo, Oderah Chidom, Sarah Ogoke, Sarah Imovbioh, Nicole Enabosi, and Atosu Upe. Coach Hugely is expected to release the final list before the start of the Olympics later this month. D’Tigress are pitched in Group B against the United States, Japan, and France.
