Bread crumbs are basically dried, crushed or crumbled bread. It is used as a crunchy topping or coating for pastries. There are different varieties of it that can be bought in the store. But bread crumbs can also be made at home. There are several advantages to homemade bread crumbs. For one, it has better flavour and taste than the store-bought ones. For another, you get to control the size of your bread crumbs and you can even add a bit of spice to jazz up the taste. Last week, I made bread crumbs with fresh bread. Freshly baked bread is usually not the first choice for bread crumbs. In fact, it is usually best to give fresh bread a few days to dry out at room temperature before use. This will make it easier to break down using a food processor or dry mill blender. Anyways, on that fateful day, I didn’t remember that I was out of bread crumbs until I needed to use some. All I had at home was fresh bread which I initially thought was so not a good thing. But I thank God because I learnt how to make breadcrumbs with fresh bread from Jessica Garvin on that day and that’s definitely a good thing. I will show you how to do this now.

Bread Toaster Blender

Method

If you have sliced bread, put some in the toaster. But if yours is a loaf, you should cut it into slices as this will make them easier to toast. If you’re wondering why you have to toast the bread first, relax, I’ll tell you. Toasting dries out the moisture in the bread. This makes it easier to break down. So, toast bread till both sides are golden brown. Remove the bread from the toaster and allow it to cool. Once cool, break them into smaller bits that your dry mill blender can accommodate. Blend till you have fine crumbs or your desired size of crumbs. Take the quantity you need and store the rest in an airtight container. Featured Image Source: wikiHow
