  The African Development Bank and the Global Center on Adaptation are jointly organizing the Youth Adaptations Solutions (YouthADAPT) challenge. This initiative is part of a broader Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program (AAAP), which is built to mobilize $25 billion for climate change adaptation projects across the continent.

The present cohort of the YouthADAPT Challenge targets female-owned enterprises developing Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies for climate change action. These businesses should also be tackling gender inequality with their solutions. 4IR technologies include additive manufacturing, blockchain, quantum computing technologies, the Internet of Things (IoT), Virtual Reality, big data analytics, fifth-generation wireless, and robotics.

Benefits

Businesses selected by the AfDB as part of this challenge will enjoy the following benefits:
  • Receive up to $100,000 grant to support their business growth plans
  • Be enrolled in a 1-year accelerator program in which they will be provided with business development skills, mentorship, training, and resources they’ll need to implement climate adaptation projects
  • Expanded partnership, knowledge sharing, and engaging a network of young entrepreneurs across Africa
  • Become a part of the YouthADAPT alumni network

Eligibility

This program is open to entrepreneurs and businesses that meet these criteria:
  • Must be a female aged 18–35 years
  • Should be an African founder who plays an active role in their business
  • Businesses should be legally registered in an African country
  • At least 51% of the business’s shareholding should belong to women
  • Must operate in the 41R segments (mentioned earlier)
