The Africa Business Club is organizing the second edition of its annual IDEA Pitch Competition. In line with this, it is calling upon food startups operating in Africa to enter the competition for a chance to win a share of the prize money on offer, totalling $5,000. Finalists will also be supported with a mentorship program that will enable them to improve and scale their operations.

Held for the first time in 2022, the IDEA Pitch Competition is built for founders and businesses in crucial commercial sectors. This year’s edition targets ventures in the food industry in Africa and manufacturers in the same space run by black founders in the United States. As part of the competition, entering startups and companies will be required to pitch their original ideas and show how those ideas drive their business goals.

This competition offers the following prizes to its winners:
  • First Prize: $2,500
  • Second Prize: $1,500
  • Third Prize: $1,000
  • In addition, finalists will receive mentoring to enable them to improve their operations

Eligibility

This competition is open to startups that meet these criteria:
  • The pitch must represent the original works of the members of the startup team
  • Applicants must be African entrepreneurs based in Africa, or black entrepreneurs in the United States whose ventures are in the food sector
  • Entering companies must have been registered for at least 6 months, and be less than 5 years old at the time they apply
