  The EquiHER Foundation, an organization that exists to empower black women around the world, has initiated a grant program for African women entrepreneurs. The Afri Women Innovation (AWI) Grant, as it is called, is in line with the United Nations SDGs, and seeks to empower 500 women who have promising business ideas or existing companies with grants, entrepreneurial training, and mentorship.

Support exists for enterprises and ideas, regardless of how small they may seem. And they do not need to be revolutionary. All that’s required is that they can solve or are solving key problems and have the power to achieve positive change across regions of the continent of Africa.

Benefits

This program provides the following benefits to its participants:
  • About 500 businesses will receive grants of $5,000 each
  • They will also get trained and mentored by business experts and experienced professionals

Eligibility

The Afri Women Innovation Grant program is open to businesses that meet these criteria:
  • Applicants should be aged between 18 and 50 years
  • Must be a citizen of an African country
  • Should be proficient in English, French, or Portuguese
  • Applicants who have business ideas must intend to implement them in Africa
  • Applicants with an existing business must have that business active within Africa, with a female shareholder owning at least 50% of the company
