Make 2022 count for something. It has been a difficult year with strikes, unpaid salaries and the “japa” wave. In all these, you can be earning right from your couch, bedroom or even kitchen. There are several businesses you can start from home.
Home businesses are advantageous due to a number of reasons. It saves you commute time and fares. If you are going to and fro an office in another location, you get to spend so much time and money commuting, especially in a place like Lagos that is characterized by severe perpetual traffic. It also affords you the luxury of working at your own convenience, as long as you are delivering good work at the end of the day.
Have you found yourself at home more often? Do you want an extra source of income? In this article, I share some profitable businesses you can start and scale from the comfort of your home. Are you ready? Let’s go!
Rental business
There is always an “owambe” to attend. Wedding, birthday and funeral ceremonies, amongst others, are regularly held. With these events come the need for rentals. This is one business you can do comfortably from home. You can start by purchasing some tables, chairs and canopies. Advertise your rental service, and have people rent these items from you. With reasonable progress, you can buy heavier and more sophisticated party equipment like generators, lighting and costumes. There are several other things that can be rented. Do your research and find out what your community needs.
Daycare business
If you love kids, you will be able to relate well to this business. There are several working-class parents that require a conducive environment for their toddlers while they go to work or attend to their businesses. You can fill in that gap. You don’t necessarily have to own a school, just a crèche or daycare; a little space for the little ones.
You can literarily start this business in your parlour or an extra room, especially if you have a big space. You may start by taking care of the kids yourself, and then get extra hands as they increase.
Poultry business
This is a lucrative business for any stay-at-home individual. If you have a large space at your backyard, you can set up your poultry farm, buy a few chicks, and start rearing them. You can then sell them as whole chickens or their by-products (like eggs and manure). Make contacts with people and let them know you are into this business, and you can be earning right from your home.
Laundry business
A lot of people are so busy these days that they can’t spare some time to do their laundry. This is where you can become relevant to them. If you already have a washing machine, great. All you need is to advertise your business, starting from the people you know. You don’t need an extra space. Use your washing machine, pressing iron and any other needed equipment to do good work. Also, invest in good packaging. It does a lot to sell your business.
Tailoring business
This is quite straight-to-the-point. If you are skilled in making clothes, you don’t need to rent a shop or showroom before you start sewing for people.
Carve out a space in your house and turn it into your shop. Be creative with your designs and you’d see yourself gaining some traction.
Blogging
With just your phone and access to the internet, you can start this business. If you are good in writing, this is one area you should be exploring right now. You could write on different issues, from political to social and personal. Just make it enticing enough for people to want to read your blog. Understand how website metrics work and start pulling traffic to your site. It pays!
Start a YouTube channel
A good phone might just be all you need to start your YouTube channel, and then you can grow from there. Just like blogging, think of topics in a niche that interests you and start making videos on them. At 1000 subscribers and 4000 watch hours, you will be ready to get monetized by YouTube.
There are several other businesses you can start at home. It is all about looking for one that suits your passion and going all out to make it a reality. You can also develop skills needed for these businesses. That is why the internet is your friend. To market and sell your products/services, you can maximize social media platforms which will help you reach a global audience without having to meet anyone physically.
